The Apartment Is A Time Capsule Of 60s New York

THE MIRISCH COMPANY
Editorial
Despite its controversial subject matter (nobody had affairs in the 60s apparently), The Apartment was a moderate success and won five Oscars before becoming a cult classic.
Jack Lemmon was in the midst of a hot streak as an actor while Shirley MacLean proved she had star power in this romantic comedy. Although filmed in black and white it’s plain to see the 60s décor, with the open fireplace and match lit stove faithful to the era. It’s a great example of the cramped one-bedroom apartments that dominate New York and a glimpse at how far we’ve come in terms of design and comfort.
